Kari Davis Wins Pan Am Under 17 Gold

Westfield’s 16-year-old Kari Davis was the only United States lifter among nine entries to win gold at the Pan American Weightlifting Championships for ages 17-and-under.

Davis took first place in the 165-pound class with a total of 183 kilograms combining her lifts in the snatch and clean and jerk. Venezuelan and Mexican lifters both totaled 182, with the Venezuelan winning second by virtue of being the lighter lifter.

The meet was in Moyobamba, Peru, and attracted lifters from more 10 Pan American countries.

Davis, who lifts for the Charleston Parks and Recreation Department Weightlifting Club, was accompanied to Peru by her mother, Karen, and local club coach Marty Schnorf, who also coached the American girls’ team.
