How I got into weightlifting: It must have been my sophmore year in high school, I saw a video of Naim Suleymanoglu doing a 190 clean and jerk at the 1988 Olympics and at that moment I knew I wanted to become a weightlifter. Prior to this I played two years of JV football and also a year of JV Wrestling and we did lift some weights. Doing the power clean for those sports really got me motivated to discover other similar lifts. And so it began.

i am an ex-powerlift champ from the uk-i am now 43! i want to be half-decent as a masters lifter and continue into my later years if god wills it! i have access to top gb lifters and this helps alot-my technique will never be perfect but its getting better-ive been told you need 5 years to begin to be proficient! i have qualified for gb masters champs 2 years running-my 1st 2 years of weightlifting! and now just qualied for the european masters2 champs-so im not rubbish-but still only lifting 80% of the totals that win my age group euro and worlds titles. i hope by age 50-54 group to have narrowed that % so maybe i will lift 90% of the very best lifters of my age. i am a 105kg+ lifter so i do not train as frequently as lighter masters lifters seem to-i do 3 days a week! due to knee ops,i am careful not to overtrain them too much! i hope to 1 day meet some of the lifters here in international comps and gain even more knowledge

I work on the road and when business is good I have to pretty much stop lifting. When it slows down I start lifting again.
I love lifting but Im finding it harder to get started these days. Olympic weightlifting is new to me, in fact I've never done it
at all. I have a 134 kg oly weight set, a bench, curl bar, dumb bells and "home brew" chin bar, dip station and row machine.
I have a lot of questions. Thanks in advance for baring with me.
