Hi Jesse,

I dont fully understand what you are explaining...

You are correct that the bar should be on your delts. But it should only really be lightly 'toucing' the base of your neck. It should NOT be at adam's apple height. You should definately not feel that you are crushing your adam's apple...and actually, the bar should not feel uncomfortable against your neck at all.

Think of the bar resting across your clavicles at their highest point...but the clavicles are spared from receiving the full load by the delts....does that make any sense?

Hello Stephen:

My delts don't seem to come forward enough (lack of flexibility?). I read somewhere where they should seem to leave the sockets. The bar will roll off of them, I think. Thus, I have been 'crushing' the adam's apple inward. It is sore today.

Perhaps when I get my shoulders more flexible I will be ok.

You are making perfect sense, Stephen and I will work on it. My neck is rather compact...

Actually I hardly have a neck, a 24" necklace is like a choker  :)rotf But I am losing weight and fully expect that will help.

Check pm's later. Thank you,.

Well today absolutely sucked. I actually quit on the workout... knees hurt, dizzy, and weak

Very disappointed in myself; depressed...

Thanks buddy, I needed that. I'm sitting here fuming... I am SERIOUSLY considering going back to my gym and try again.

I stretched a bit and then started trying to do OHS, but I couldn't get deep and I was dizzy holding bar overhead, went to 135 and then just left. PATHETIC. This is difficult to accept that these pitifully light weights feel heavy... I thought I was on to something last time and it would take off but this doesn't seem to be a completely linear process. I thought I'd go to 190 for a single today.

Geez, I feel like shooting myself...

Jesse, remember one of the biggest things some struggle with from switching from powerlifting to olympic lifting is having to drop down to lighter weights to learn and improve on technique of the lifts.  Many are so used to doing so much weight for powerlifting that is becomes stressful that they have to go back to lighter weights be it due to flexibility or for technique or both.  Try to keep a positive attitude about the whole thing and keep trudging forward.  Just like Danny said it takes time to learn the lifts and improve on them.  Just keep working at it.

Jesse,

Post some video and I will try to give you a few tips to push you in the right direction. Also, it seems like this thread is pretty much a training journal. What do you think of me moving it into that forum? Or, would you prefer to start a training journal there and maybe move just some of the posts in this thread in to it?
