Well, that's a false dichotomy, dude. It could be the case that you are crazy and I am blind. ;)

Quite simply, that is a "bounced" bench press. A "touch and go" is quite like to a paused bp, sans pause. The bar comes down under full control and grazes the chest without a detectable pause. A bounced bp does not have to penetrate the chest cavity to be bounced.

I agree my term "slam" was hyperbolic. Mea Culpa... After watching it again, it appears that it wasn't as I first thought. The guy is very powerful, without doubt.

As for being a bench press expert, far from it,  but I have had several lifts well over 500 lbs. passed in meets. But that's nothing to brag about, as your sarcasm notes.

My point is you made it sound like he was so out of control he was going to crush his chest and break his ribs.

Sean,

Don't take this the wrong please. I'm making no point whatsoever and am just curious. As I recall, you were a very good high school bencher. How much did you do at what bodyweight?

Thanks

I did 260lbs at 127lbs body weight back in 2005 training bench 3x's a week. My best now is 275lbs weighing 136lbs benching about 2x's a week on average. Benching is still a good part of training for the olympic lifts. I took off for a while after high school then realize how much the upper body strenght is still need for the snatch and the jerk. No flexibility issues as long as you take the time to stretch a lil every now and again.

Sean,

Thanks for the info. Will you be lifting at the Joe Dube Classic?

beching shouldnt be an exercise you do year round...its beter in the off season 2-3 times a week..for 2-4 weeks...depending on your program....as long as continue snatching and cj in your workouts nothing should change...I am a weak presser becuase my shoulders hurt when i press the bar from my chest to my nose after that im fine....i used bech press and press and push press this summer to strengthen my upper body so that holding the bar in the rested possition in the clean feels more comforatable and im stable on my push for the jerk...as long as you dont liek stop the dynamic lifts so that you can press and bench...there would be a difference...it might make it harder to snatch but its normal...you jsut have to train through it...its like squating as a first exercise to tire out your legs b4 snatching or cjing....besides it shouldnt affect you in comps because benching and pressing should be stopped a while b4 comps..weightlifting isnt about being able to do your max everyday....not being able to do your max 2 month b4 a comp is normal cuz the training mentality is diferent from the mentality of the comp month...i stand by benching but it has to be controlled by a coach...and you dont need to force and blow a shoulder...its a backgound exercise after all...the russians kno what the are doing... :)wink ):wlfter

Most likely not. If I lift in any meets in October I'm gonna see if I can make another trip down to the Criollo Cup in Puerto Rico again.

When done in conjunction with O-lifts my elbows and shoulders get very sore.
