Gyms in or near SF valley in Los Angeles
« on: Aug 14, 2008, 11:34 PM »
I Live in Simi Valley, which is just West of the San Fernando Valley in LA. Does anyone know of any gyms where I could at least do olympic lifts, or better yet, learn? Sorry, I'm not exactly a young recruit (39), but I do have kids who sometimes actually decide they like to do what daddy does.

I can drive further on weekends, and would be willing to to learn, but I'd love a place I could train at, and take kids to on Weekdays as well.

Thanks

The USAW is the best source to find a coach/club- 719-866-4508 during regular hours or usa@usaweightlifting.org .

But, you CAN check this map, though it may not be fully up to date and complete:

Darn. There's a place in Salina, Kansas, an hour away from where I used to live. That was back in the days when I also went to a gym with an olympic platform. Unfortunately I didn't know what the heck it was for. I just used it for deadlifts.

Nothing on the map that helps (almost nothing west of Kansas), but I'll call that number. Thanks.

By the way, I appreciate your commentary on the games.

Matt,

I train at UCLA on weekdays (27 platforms, all Eleiko bumpers, paradise) and Gold's in Venice (bodybuilders - ugh!) on weekends where there is also a platform and bumpers.  There used to be a team based at Van Nuys High School under the guidance of Bob Takano, but I don't know if they still lift there.  Check the usaweightlifting website for the meet 10/25 in Long Beach, and contact Leslie about training options.  I think Vardanian lives in Simi, but I don't know if he trains anyone other than his son, Norik.
