It has been great to hear several of the reporters from Beijing actually NOT mispronounce the city's name.
Most of the most high profile newsfolk are still not handling the reality that "J" is said the same way as in English, rather than as the French do.
And the NUMBER ONE mispronunciation to avoid...
THERE IS NO SUCH SOUND IN CHINESE AS THE WAY AMERICANS SAY "WANG"!!
EVERYTIME you see a single "a" as the vowel in a chinese word, it is properly said "ah" like in "father", NEVER like the "a" in "dad", or any other kind of short, long or whatever "a".
ALSO, who is that guy Ramo they had adding the propaganda angle to the pageant before the march of nations?
He was stunningly ignorant in much of what he was saying about Chinese history and language, and the constant homage to Chinese "environmental idealism" was monumentally farcical.
Anyway, it was a grand spectacle perhaps unmatched in relative pageantry since the last time the world's capital of evil was the host...

I agree w/ Mark Davis --
"Compromising on basic beliefs
in a doomed effort to be liked
is as dishonest as it is futile."
