I'll go with who I am pulling for.

77 - Sagir
85 - Rybakou or Yong - I'm pulling for both here
94 - Kolecki and for silver Ilin
105 - Klokov

56-Long QingQuan(Gold), Anh Tuan (Silver), Kum Chol Cha (Bronze)
62- Zhang Xiang Xiang (Gold), Yong Su Im (Silver), Hunmin Ji (Bronze)   Not too familiar with him but the korean team is strong
69- Liao Hui CHN, unsure of other places, depends in Shi Zhiyong is still going to be there. if so he takes silver
77- Sa JaeHyuk (Gold by winning clean and jerk), Oleg Perepetchenov and Li Hongli interchangeable. Possibly even Davtayan if either one of those lifters has a bad day in the clean and jerk and we all know they are very inconsistent in that lift. If Sagir is in top shape I give him gold but I have reason to believe he won't be because of drug testing in Turkey.
85- Andrei Rybakov, Lu Yong (misses a big winning clean and jerk), Vladimir Sedov
94- Ilya Ilin, Akkaev, Kolecki or Konstantinov if both are there. If they are absent ( they are no longer on the IWF list tonight but a lot of names are missing) then it will be Hernandes from Cuba.
105- Aramnau, Dolega (assuming he is actually consistent for a day), Lapikov + Klokov battle for 3rd
105+ - Chigishev, Steiner, Scerbatihs (age finally catches up to victor, he was way too beat up by a 252kg clean and jerk after not snatching well at all at euros. chigishev will snatch 205+ and finally be motivated enough to make a 250+ jerk)

Simply predictions. Some classes are too hard to predict like 94 and 105. I think Sa will surprise in the 77's. He has been improving consistently every year and the rest of the lifters have weak clean and jerks so it will come down to how much he can jerk.

 Other Predictions:

North Korea will have a good showing in the light weight classes.

Someone will snatch 200kg in the 105's. Aramnau Dolega or Lapikov are all capable

Ilya breaks the world record in the jerk.

Sagir bombs

I forgot about Dolega. I would like to seem him grab gold.

Rybakou breaks Snatch record again and finally CJ 210+

Good stuff Dave, for the most part I agree with you, except I think you should not underestimate Dmitry Lapikov, he is a warrior who seems to be able to destroy massive weights... Still can't believe Sa did 165 and 210, that is incredible haha, he is very very strong though.

On a serious note though, Dave do you not think the lack of competing at a high level in some time will affect these guys, notably Ilin?

Most people yes. Not Ilin. He seems to be one of the most confident lifters in the world. If the stories are true about his training I think he will hit big numbers. The one time he was pushed to hit a big C&J he did it fairly easily (216@85). His coaches want him to have a legacy similar to naim and they feel he is capable of that so this will be his first big test. It has been years since Ilin lost a major competition. Maybe since he was 15 or 16.

I remember everyone worrying about him only doing like 165+215 at the kazakh competition in the spring and saying he must be off drugs yada yada. Well he had only been training for 1.5 months before that competition because he took all those months off recovering from a back injury that made him miss worlds. His best in training before that competition was 210kg and his coach wouldnt let him go heavier than his second attempt 215 because he wasn't in good shape and was afraid of injury. Since then he is supposedly in good form and it wouldn't surprise me if he did more than 230. Keep in mind 215 is a big jerk for pashayev and akkaev. If Ilin snatches a competition PR 180 I don't think anyone will touch him. Only 175? Well it will be a nail biter in the clean and jerks.

I also think rybakov breaks the snatch record. Lu can definitely beat him. Its a toss up in my mind right now.

Lapikov has trouble in the jerk when cutting weight. At russian nationals I've heard that there are some shady things going on in the backroom with regards to weigh ins. I think many are actually heavier than their listed weight at nationals which would explain the higher totals in the clean and jerk. Lapikov and Dolega are probably pretty similar lifters with lapikov being more consistent in the snatch.

It all comes down to how the lifters respond to pressure. We know how Ilya responds (05 Worlds) but we don't know how Lu Yong responds or how Rybakov responds when someone is right on his heels. No one ever is. He spent most of his young career lifting in the B sessions and since he moved to the A sessions he has been on another level.

There will be tremendous pressure to make every lift in the 77kg, 85kg, 94kg and 105kg weight classes for the top lifters and we don't know how most of them respond. Dimas wasn't the best because he always broke world records, he was the best because he was consistent under pressure.

I forgot about Martirosyan in the 69's. He will medal. 158-160kg snatch and possibly jerking 190 or better.

To have a another Naim or Dimas to would be awesome. I may have to pull for Ilin.

With regard to his coach I saw where he was coached by Turkileri right but then read he is coached by Alexi Ni.

Is Ni a Turk/Bulgarian system coach or is he from somewhere else?
