Maybe ilin ilya will won,two years ago nobody would said that he wont be  top favourite for olympic gold, but now we know that situation is different and in 94 category that it is almost impossible to choose someone.there are ilin, kolecki both russian nizami and others, and in 77kg situation is almost the same.I would say that situation is the most clear in 85 kg where rybakov is only favourite for gold, we all expect a new record in snatch.

No offense but check the roster before you claim Rybakov is the only pick for gold in the 85 kg category, Lu Yong is more than capable of defeating Rybakov.

I know this chinese, he was in doha behind ilin ilya, and in last competition he did 180+213.But I still think that rybakov is top favourite. He won 2006 and 2007 world championship, he broke many records in snatch, and you must not forget that he was 2 in Athens. So for me he is the top favourite among all man categories.

There is tight competition in the 94's, yes. But lets take a look at who has a chance.

Akkaev from Russia is more than capable of snatching 185, but he has trouble jerking anything more than 215-220. On a good day he totals 405.

Konstantinov is on the rise, he has the strength but lacks the consistent technique. On a really good day expect 180/222 for 402 total. However, as of today he is missing from the IWF start list along.

Ilya Ilin has not competed since he won the Asian Games, Worlds and Jr Worlds all in one year in 2006. He doesn't like losing very much does he? At that time his best snatch in training was 185 and he did 176 fairly easily @ Jr Worlds along with an easy 225kg clean and jerk which he topped by one kilo at the Asian games for an Asian record 226kg. He is doing 190 + 230 in training right now. He has the confidence to put any weight on the bar to win gold and give it a good bid. His coach apparently doesn't let him go to absolute maximum in training.

Kolecki is, unfortunately, not in his old form pre-back surgery. He has never won a gold medal at Worlds and it is lofty thinking to believe he will win gold if he is present. 180+225 on an absolutely perfect day for him but perfect days are rare in weightlifting. He is also MIA from the IWF start list as of today and looked terrible at a local competition going 4 for 6 with lifts of 165 and 205. I do hope he is in shape because I would feel even worse if he doesn't medal after all he that he has been through in weightlifting.

Kasabiev is 20 years old now and was the youngest lifter in Athens @ 16 years old. He won Jr Worlds in 2005 I believe. Grikurovi, his coach, produced the young szymon we all remember that clean and jerked 232.5 and the great kakiasvilis and asanidze. Expect him to be in good shape. A year ago his coach predicted the medals to be Ilin in first, Szymon in second and Kasabiev in 3rd. Thing have changed since then so we will see. He should be capable of 175-180 + 220 by now on a good day.

EDIT: Forgot about Pashayev - can snatch 185 on any given day it seems but his jerk is just a level below every one else. I don't expect him to contend for gold but possibly silver or bronze.

I have no idea what is going on with the start list. Hopefully these people are not injured or still have drugs in their system and are pulling out. Im guessing it is probably just the IWF messing up a little as they continue to update the site on and off.

Other notables that are missing as of today are Dmitry Lapikov and Shi Zhiyong. There may be more but I just glanced through as I was writing this.

Regarding Sagir. He looked absolutely terrible at Europeans along with the entire Turkish team. I don't know if their training was simply focused on the Olympics and this was just a pit stop or testing has caught up with them. If the testing has then you can expect no medals for Turkey and another bomb for Sagir.

I hope Sagir's in shape; the way he carve's his body around the bar makes him one of my favorite technicians.

I like perepechenov much more, his technicks is opposite to sagir, for me it looks and actually it is better.
