Weightlifting Straps ... Safe?
«

I saw an banner for weightlifting straps on the site and was wondering if a lot of people use them and if they are generally considered safe. I come from a powerlifting background and never used them myself. The thought of having to dump a failed snatch behind me and being pulled back with the bar is horrifying. Thoughts?

When you release your hand the straps release.
I enjoy using them for snatches particularly power, hang, and triples. They take your mind off the grip and I feel they allow you to pull "straighter." They are also useful for pulls and rdls.

I myself have only ever used my ironmind straps for heavy snatch-grip deads, snatch complexes, and heavy weighted dead hangs off a chin bar; I have tried snatching with them on and have missed and it was fairly easy to dump the bar behind or forward, the straps should be tight enough that they're giving you grip support but not so tight that you can't release yourself from the bar.

This is true of weightlifting straps. The kind you normally find in commercial gyms wrap around the bar several times and would stay caught. For doing snatches you would need proper straps.

Can anyone put a brief guide or explanation on how to use the wraps correctly? I don't think I use them the right way.

The straps I sell on this site that you see in the banner are of the normal weightlifting quick release kind and are safer than other straps because they pretty much aren't going to ever rip in the middle of a pull/lift which is uncomfortable, frustrating, and potentially injury causing. I offer a lifetime guarantee on them if they fail from normal use (weightlifting) during the lifetime of the purchaser.
Thanks

Usually a misconception for straps is that you rap it a ton to make it tight. Straps should only be rapped in one revoultion of the bar for easy release if you have to let go.
