Greece Going To Olympic Games!!!

Judgement - boon "John Rigas | 11/6/2008 9:47:20 mmI Greek weightlifting had time to hear good news, after the doping case of 11 Greek athletes and the decision of the HOS for sending 4 athletes (3 men and one woman) in the Beijing Olympics has added a little color to gray ... reality prevailing in the sport of "possible". Nikos Kourtidis, speaking in sport.gr, not hide that pleasantly surprised with the new, hearing Wednesday (11 / 6) ... and even loosely begins to make dreams for Beijing.

They pay and go to Beijing

"A prerequisite to have representation in Beijing is to pay the fine by the Federation" spefdei to identify Nikos Kourtidis, complementing that at that time does not matter who will travel to China as long as Greek presence: "The names play little importance ... The important thing is to be represented the sport in Beijing. To escape some Greek weightlifting from the bad events of recent months, which shocked us all. This decision was boon. "

The Kourtidis trainer in Kavala, on the premises of the club (Iraklis Kavala) and so far has not hit the phone to come down in Athens: "To continue the regular training sessions in my club. Certainly not abiding by the same program, as I did in Athens . Gymnazomai approximately 3-4 days a week and not the maximum. I do not know whether to go to Beijing this will be clarified in the next few days ".

The 22 achronos arsivaristas had no intention to stop weightlifting after the doping scandal, which erupted within the game: "The weightlifting is my life. What we have learned to do morning, noon and evening, gymnazomaste to bring discrimination in the sport. This was done for me "lightning in aithria." I hope with this development to improve the situation somewhat in the sport "¨ reached Nikos Kourtidis.

The Kourtidis tries and is stable in kilos: "Although I am not foul proponimenos remain in my kilos. Agonizomai to 105 by now I am 102 Mr and trying to diatiritho at these levels weight, so I can eat without fear, and hate ... Diets "said jokingly the young champion of Hercules Kavala.

Banned Greece hope fine can help lift ban

ATHENS - Greece may yet be able to send a weightlifting team to the Olympics despite doping charges being laid against a former coach and 11 athletes, according to a Greek federation source yesterday.

A former weightlifting coach, 11 lifters and another 13 people were charged at the end of May in a major doping scandal that threatens to leave Greece with no weightlifting competitors in Beijing this August.

However sources at the Greek weightlifting federation have revealed they are hoping to escape a blanket ban by paying a fine to the tune of 290,000 euros. Until we are informed otherwise, we will hope to send up to four athletes, three men and one woman, to the Games, said a source at the federation, speaking under anonymity. According to the same source the International Weightlifting Federation is set to study the proposal this weekend at a meeting in Cali, Colombia. Former coach Christos Iakovou, was charged as the brains behind the import, treatment and use of a banned steroid on the athletes.

Proof positive that the IWF and the rest of the suits have no desire whatsoever to clean our sport of drugs.

well it did say "they are hoping to escape a blanket ban by paying a fine of $458,000."

time will tell
There is no shortage of stories where a small business person has been hit with tens of thousands or more of legal costs from their own lawyers. Then there is the potential of having to pay for the other sides legal costs if the small business person loses

From what I understand, team suspensions are out for good now so Greece being banned from the Olympics was never a possibility. Obviously the Olympic selection process is completely corrupted by such situations where a country uses doped lifters to earn slots, gets popped, and then doesn't lose the slots. It is a complete joke.

Wait so let me get this straight.  If they get this ban lifted and can compete, does that mean only the 4 who were not doping can lift?  Or does it mean the team can lift again (this doesn't sound right but more corrupt things have happened)?

If only doped lifters are disqualified, does that mean all thier spots are retained so they can send thier second string guys that may or may not be doped up?
