Has anyone here taken 2-4 weeks off just to recoup and rest? What happens when you go back? Do you get stronger or go back to where you were? Dane?

John,

My experience - after the National Masters two months ago, I had a whole bunch of HONEY DO'S to catch up on. So, I took off for four days, then went no heavier than 50-60% for the next 8 days. I missed a few more workouts at the beginning of April, then light again until mid April. I then started a 4 week assistance exercise program. It seemed to work. I did not miss any scheduled lifts and got stronger. I decided to try it for another 4 weeks, which  I just started this week. So far so good. Gotta build on those small successes.
If I was doing any better, I would be twins!!!

Here's some things that work for me:
1. Single reps at the heavy weight, say, 60% and above. About 3 sets.
2. Lots of rest. More than you think you need. Undertrain.
3. Spending half of the 45 minute workout stretching and warming up.
4. Maxing out no more than once a month and only maxing when you feel real, real good. Don't force yourself if you don't feel like it.

This works for me.
