My quick rant on doping in sports for anyone that wants to read:

Doping use in sports is typically banned except in sports like strongman and bodybuilding which was previously stated. However, just because it is banned doesn't mean the use of these drugs are inherently immoral. How can a drug be immoral? It can't. The use dictates whether it is moral or immoral. This leads to the same medical debate for most drugs and their classification and uses. Do I agree that steroids should be a Class III substance? No, but taking them against the rules of the sport of weightlifting which means it would be unethical to use them for that purpose. However, when you spend ten years of your life in another country like russia from the age of twelve and are told you have the physical ability to be an olympian (in a country where it means much than in the USA) but all those guys you see go to the games from your country and taking these here injections, well what do you think the person is gonna do? Remember, they poured their heart and soul into their training for years. It is for that reason that I don't look down upon drug users from other countries. They arn't these raging drug addicts that many Americans (and American weightlifters) think they are. If you want to be on the national team, support your family and go to the olympics you have to do this, this and this says your national coach. You either do it or they find someone else who will and fulfill the dream you've worked so hard for. Right or wrong, you decide.

Most top lifters compete multiple times internationally each year and they still usually need to pass tests at these events and most do pass them. This isn't strongman where guys inject and then hop on an airplane a day later to head to the World's Strongest Man competition. These guys literally time their cycles so the half lives of the drugs will be in perfect timing with the big competitions so they are as juiced up as they can be for these events. Yet, this is on ESPN and you would be surprised at the number of Americans that assume these guys are clean. I have told people that they arn't and they immediately look at me like I'm crazy. They then come to accept it and think the athletes are immoral and are cheating the American public. Well, how so? No drug testing in the rules, they are not cheating! This is a great example of governmental influence on public perception. People are willing to take very risky prescription drugs, even get dangerous surgery to fix flaws in their physique, yet taking steroids is looked upon as a similar crime to adultery in past generations. The government went against doctor's testimonies and made the drugs Class III substances and they now proceed to go after every athlete that they can find that takes them because it "sends the wrong message" according to Bush. I don't know if that is the worst part, or the worst part is the American public can't think for themselves and do their homework on what actually happened when steroids became a Class III substance.

Be back later, I have to go train. On the way there I'll be driving by a pharmacy to watch all these moral American's pick up their dangerous medications because they were too stupid to eat correctly when they were young.

I'm not a "troll".  I truly do love Olympic lifting (what I've taught myself) which is why I came here.  I did the whole bodybuilding thing for 10yrs but I began thinking there has to be a bigger point to lifting weights than reaching a point where you shave your body, starve yourself for 3 months & put on a G string around other men.  Pl'ing for me had a little more substance but the whole scene looks like a KKK rally or a kuntry music concert w/ "LAZUR" lites.

I really don't understand what happened w/ Oly lifting.  It used to be How You Lifted Weights and thats all there was to it, no glam mags, no "iron brotherhood", just cleaning a pressing or jerking.  However, I'm glad to be done w/ PL & BB and glad to be here.  As I said B4, all I need now is to lobby the IOC to bring back the C & P.  Who's with me????? :)banghead

You're right.  The typical american doesn't know a damn thing about steroids but they do know that steroids are worse than heroin.  The freakin head at the time of the DEA argued against illegalizing them.  My personal opinion is an injectable non liver-toxic SINGLE (no stacking!) steroid can be used safely.  IF....IF someone chooses that then THAT is they're choice.  Not the gov or the IOC.

Mark, I agree with you its none of the government's business. But, don't you think a private sport organization should be able to set rules as it sees fit? After all, an athlete can freely chose not to join that organization. And, whats up with the "typical American" thing? Don't you consider yourself a typical American? What IS a typical American?

No I don't consider myself a typical American.  Its an embarrassment.  For a country which postures itself to of the people by the people FOR the people its as far as you get from that w/out being a monarchy.  I'd estimate a roundtable of probably 10 -20 men run this country w/ the proverbial iron fist.  There is absolutely NO reason for gas in the US to cost $4/gallon - NONE, unless a rubber stamp was installed in the white house which is what happened.  Once I complete my education I plan on burning my passport soon.  Things w/in 20 yrs will be so bad in this country it will be UNRECONGNIZABLE.  The NWO was behind the "inside job" of 9/11 and since no one has the kahunas (of means) to stand up to them (if they did they'd no longer be able to do business anyway) and they will continue to fight the stunning power of the internet (which has dealt them a near fatal blow).

A much darker future for the US & world is coming I assure you.

LOL. Okay. Which country are you going to? Which country on the planet has nothing in its history which will not embarrass you? And if the dark future is coming to the whole world, does that mean you are going to go to a different world?

Where the US is at fault is it postures itself to be this "home of the free" when nothing, absolutely nothing could be further from the truth.  As I said earlier, you can't base your entire existence (as the US has) on being one thing then using basically your entire economy to go after (no matter what kinda timeframe) another country for doing the same thing.  Example - Iraq, Example - how the US  acquired Hawaii, Example - how the US dealt and still are dealing w/ native Americans (my son is half Houmas), Example - Vietnam (Pol Pot), Example - Japan, Example - Italy, Example - Central America (80's).  < Is this enough examples of typical American hypocrisy.  Its fine if the US wants to be the baddest MF on block...just don't posture yourself to some kind of peaceful utopia.
