jerk grip
« on: Apr 17, 2009, 11:02 AM »
Hi! Just wondering what the concensus is about this position. I have wrist problems and have always found it hard to receive bar and also to get ready for jerk with bar in the hand. So i use my fingers, hand open. In relation to both wrist safety and also jerk success, should i try to get the bar into my hand?

i wouldnt worry about it, there have been plenty of lifters who have done eather one, personaly i like to jerk with the bar sort of half in my hand, because if its all the way in i have a tendensy to start pushing with my arms to early in the jerk

Same for me. The pushing early also started really hurting my shoulders. Back with the bar at the base of the fingers/at the second knuckle and I don't have that problem.

I go thumbless ("false" grip) ever since training w/ a virtuoso who also did so in the early 90s.

The only time I even dropped the weight on my head was back when I went w/ a normal grip.

Thumbless helps the open hand style too.

You should see Taylor put up jerks when he has some fingers not even touching the bar --

you just learn to kick and trust.
I agree w/ Mark Davis --
