the Chinese B team is doing well in the women's division with some notable teams absent such as Republic of Korea and DPRK.
56 kg men's was won by Vietnamese Anh Tuan Hoang who is a real medal contender.
On a personal note I am very pleased that the Malaysian 56 kg lifter Hamizan Ibrahim Amirul had one hell of a day, lifting 121+141=262. I will be meeting him in a couple of months.

The Chinese lifter Jie Zhang in 62 kg at the Asian Championships put up a pretty huge total of 326 kg (147+179). It actually beats the world standard for this weight class (325) and therefore is a new world record. Previously Peschalov has totalled 325 2x, and Shi Zhiyong 325 2x.
Irawan of Indonesia who led the world ranking list in 2007 in 56 kg moved up to the 62 kg class - at least for this event. He came in pretty light at 60.47 kg and totalled 305.

Very interesting, those teams (the 2 Koreas) definitely have lifters that could possibly upset the Chinese in Beijing. Should be very good .

The results of the Asians today were not of the usual calibre, but with a number of countries mostly (but not entirely) absent, and the countries that are there sending fewer lifters, there is not a lot of depth or A group lifters. The group that would usually be at the top of the 69 and 77 were not at the meet.
This situation might facilitate an up and comer who will have the luxury of a low pressure but major venue to have a breakout performance (eg. the winner of the 62 kg class). As we know when there is tight competition sometimes the big attempts are sacrificed for placing.

Iran had some good results in the 94 and 105+ categories. We've seen all three of these lifters before but the two 105+ improved on their international performances this meet. Maybe Rezzazadeh will soon have replacements once he retires. It seems they will never be as good but they could eventually challenge for medals at the worlds.

105+: 190 + 236, 185 + 235
