The "click" of the knee is relatively normal ...
It happens when the air "escapes" out of the articular capsule ( think of the "clicking" fingers -> same phenomena)
As you can imagine, it is nearly impossible to give an adequate diagnosis.
I would say you visit a orthopedist, because the pain could come from a "jumpers`knee" (google it) or a cartilage damage behind the knee, it could even be an inflammation of the corpus adiposum infrapatellaris ("hoffa-fatbody")
As you can see, everything is possible ...
I would not recommend to train for the moment, because ... you just have that one pair of knees ... ;)
A MRT will usually show you what is going on ...
Good luck!

Thanks Michael. I have spent small fortune on physio, chiro and osteo, but no-one could make a diagnosis. The physio felt it was just a knee tracking problem ( knock-kneees) and that exercises would sort it.

Colin, The MRI is a must. Probably nothing comparable to tell you exactly what is injured. In the meantime, if I were you I think you ought to listen to the pain and avoid anything that exacerbates it. Good luck and be hopeful. Modern orthopedic medicine can do some pretty amazing things.

Thanks for advice guys. I managed to track down a physical therapist ( rare in Ireland). He seen me on thurs and is certain I have patella tendinitis and chondromalacia on right knee, and early sign of chondro.on left knee. He is certain my MRI which I get in 4 weeks will confirm the chon.
My knee was improving BUT tonight I was doing some kettlebell swings before tea and pulled my left hamstring. It felt like I had been shot or stabbed. Its very painful.

Thanks Michael for advice. I have reluctantly decided to stop the olympic lifts for awhile to save my knees. As I want to be still competing as a master ( in 2 years). The sickening bit is I am paying off my new Eleiko on my visa bill - was very expensive here in Ireland. Lets hope I can resist for a month or so, as I am itching to pull, squat, snatch etc!!!!!!!!!!!
