Knee pain
« on: Mar 27, 2008, 03:16 PM »
Hi!
I have had a mysterious right knee problem which has plagued me since Nov. Just wondering if any other lifters have had similar symptoms? I have spent small fortune on physio, chiro and osteopath, but no-one can diagnose the problem. Getting an MRI scan in a months time.
My knees were getting achy as usual but suddenly in Nov my right patella felt as if I had banged it. So I stopped lifting to give plenty of rest. The rest didnt work. Pain occurs when=
1) going beneath parallell, the knee cracks loud.
2) Landing when catching the bar
3) Curled up in a ball in bed
4) Twisting movement esp getting into car
5) stretching right quad
6) The get set position.
The pain is on kneecap itself and/or the patella tendon below kneecap. Anyone else experienced this? Im depressed!

I think I did. I just put some ice and do lots of stretching. The pain was still there, but way more supportable

 - Stop squats for awhile, then introduce light work back into training
 - do more power versions
 - reduce overall volume & intensity
 - ice
 - apply heat to knees & wear knee sleeves

Can you describe where to pain is, when you bend the knee?

Mayby send a picture where you show where it hurts ...

It seems that you have a inflammation of the patella tondon (insertion at the lower leg) or the periost ... does your lower leg/shin hurt ?

Thanks Michael. It hurts just on the patella and on the patella tendon towards the tibia. Sometimes the pain will be on lateral part of the tendon, and sometimes on the tendon above patella. The knee clicks loudly when going under parallel. The medial ligaments also hurt when twisting as a result of a bad fall 2 weeks after my knee pain started!

Have you done a MRI?
It's hard to figure out beacause it hurt in so many places.
In a worst case scenario it could possibly be artrosis in the kneecap.

Try and rest from training and se how that works out, maybe try Glocoseamin and MSM?
Meanwhile you should try and get a MRI.
