Kendrick Farris Wins Bronze Medal in Clean and Jerk at 2008 Pan Am Championships

Kendrick Farris won the bronze medal in the clean and jerk in the 85 kg. category at the Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Lima, Peru.

Farris' 197 kg. lift tied Jadiel Vallades of Cuba and was 1 kg. less than Herbys Marquez of Venezuela who finished first with a lift of 198 kg.

Vallades received the silver medal due to being lighter than Farris at weigh in. Farris finished 4th in the combined total (snatch and clean and jerk), 1 kg. out of third place and 2 kg. out of second.

This was the first of two Olympic qualifying events for Farris.

His total here currently puts him number one on USA Weightlifting's men's ranking list for the Beijing Games. The final qualification event will be the Olympic Trials on May 15 and 16in Atlanta.

Weightlifters training at the USA Weightlifting Development Center at LSA in Shreveport who will join Farris at the trials are Cara Heads, 2000 Olympic team member, Cody Gibbs, 2OO7 world team member, and Aaron Adams, the No. 1 ranked junior weightlifter in the country.
