Megan Kranz Hopes to Qualify for 2008 USA Olympic Trials
Remember gymnasts Brandy Johnson and Wendy Bruce? Triathlete Hunter Kemper and track hurdler Schowonda Williams? Olympians all, representing Altamonte Springs.
The city's next hopeful is weightlifter Megan Kranz, a three-year member of Altamonte Weightlifting, where she trained under Danny Camargo.
Kranz, 21 and an Oviedo High grad, currently is living at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, where she is training five hours daily and attending college.
Kranz's big day is coming May 16-17 in Atlanta, site of the U.S. Olympic weightlifting trials. Kranz lifts in the 63-kilo (138.6-pound) weight division.
Camargo says another local lifter, J.T. Barnett, is competing for a berth on a USA Weightlifting international meet team that will travel to Colombia this summer.
