Tamas Ajan: "Iranian Rezazadeh belongs to the world"

LONDON, February 15 (IranMania) - Tamas Ajan, president of International Weightlifting Federation, said that Hossein Rezazadeh does not belong to the Iranians and he is an international lifter, Iran Daily reported.

Hossein is a kind man who belongs to the world. Iranians, particularly Rezazadeh have earned a pretty good position in the world. We hope to see him in good shape in the upcoming Olympics, he told reporters at Tehran's Azadi Stadium prior to the Namjoo International Weightlifting Championship.

Asked about Iran's weightlifting position after the doping crisis, he said, Iran has a key role in the world and has introduced a number of great lifters, therefore should fight doping. We ought to penalize Iranian offenders such as a father who punishes his child.

Ajan praised Iran's facilities and said he is amazed by the well-organized stadium, IRNA wrote.

He pointed out the Namjoo Weightlifting Championship is a prestigious tourney which can be held yearly.

Ajan concluded that talented lifters can insure Iran's future in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Does it seem to anyone else that Ajan doesn't take doping violations all that serious? To me, he almost seems to shrug this massive iranian doping scandal off as "kids will be kids" or even to some extent condoning doping if it produces "great lifters." Will our sport ever be cleaned up? Or is it going to eventually get kicked out of the Olympics because of this type of attitude and failure to truly address the problem?

Ajan has been VP or President for many many years. Does the IWF even have elections? Time for a change?

I never think they would ever go through with banning weightlifting for the olympic games.

Yeah everything is tainted now. I doubt that it will get any better.

I went to a BBQ a few weeks ago and saw some rugby team mates who I hadn't seen in 6 months or so. After asking how my lifting was going, the next question was "So, Are ya on the juice or what?".
