Repetition Olympic Lift
« on: Dec 17, 2007, 04:26 PM »
I like to incorporate triples in the Snatch and Clean & Jerk at about 75-80% into my routine.
Commonly I'll also do 5 - 8 sets of doubles at 80 - 85%.
I enjoy this type of workout because it allows me to get some volume under my belt with sub maximum weights.
It also builds good endurance and conditioning for Judo which is important to me.
I know a lot of lifters and coaches will only ever do singles in the Olmpic lifts.
What do people on this forum think about the value of using triples in the lifts in an Olympic lifting program?

Most of my training (for classic lifts) is 2-3 reps, and even 4 and 5 in the snatch. I still go heavy. Even with 5 reps I'll use 80-85%. Doubles and triples are upwards of that. It's unconventional, but it's been working great for me.

I think you can get away with triples and such, especially if you are weightlifting to improve your strength in a sport.  As opposed to increasing your total in weightlifting.  The main thing to always be aware of is if you start to lose correct form to probably drop back the reps.  Scraping out 2 bad reps at the end when you are doing a set of 4 isnt worth the injury risk or the risk of developing bad habits.  Like Matt there will be times when I will do more reps with 75-85% and it works pretty well for me at times (usually if I could ever do a triple at my 90% it is time to remax).  Especially since I dont have a full set of small plates so the smallest jumps I can make are 2.2 kgs sometimes if I get held up at a heavier weight I will drop down and do extra reps with a little less weight to get some confidence and help me build up a little more strength to attempt the heavier weights again.
