American Weightlifting Scholarship
« on: Nov 09, 2007, 10:37 PM »
What do you all think of kicking in a little each for WE to sponsor a scholarship for some young lifter around the country (USA) to go to Ivan Abajiev's training center in California? I don't know how WE would select the lifter and WE would all have to discuss it, but I was thinking there must be some talent out there that could benefit from a stay with Abajiev. I think WE could raise enough $ to send one of our young, talented lifters out there for 4-8 weeks this summer. I pledge $50.

That's not a bad idea at all. I hope this works. It would definately be a good experience for a young and upcoming lifter. I wish I had the spare cash to donate but im pretty strapped being a college student and paying rent and all my other bills.

Sean,

Actually, you would be more like someone I think that would deserve such a scholarship. I certainly wouldn't accept donations from you for it. Unfortunately, Abajiev's team seems not to be growing, at least yet. And, there doesn't seem much interest in this scholarship. I don't know how many lifters could afford him. I would favor the USAW paying him to have a camp for some of our juniors rather than funding all these trips for them to unimportant meets.

I hope your training is going well.
