Scott,
Try not gripping the bar so hard when you use the hook grip. I have small hands too and never felt good using the hook grip until I learned that I didn't have to squeeze the bar like when I used a regular grip. All I had to do was basically get the hook grip and I was good to go, more comfortable and faster because I wasn't squeezing the bar so hard - kind of like relaxing the hands for the jerk.
