Alan Naniyev: I played for Azerbaijan national team with false passport

"I can easily frustrate Azerbaijan’s plans about Beijing Olympic Games."

Azerbaijan weightlifting team former member, Russia national women’s team coach Alan Naniyev was interviewed by APA-Sport

Alan, what are you doing now?
- I am in Surgut,Tumen now. I am engaged in training of Russia national team. I am training the world and European champion Zrina Kasayeva. Despite her injure Zrina is preparing to attend the Beijing Olympic Games.

Did you watch Azerbaijan teams’ matches in the world championship in Thailand?
- Yes I did. Azerbaijan team performed not well. In Afsat Afsatov’s time we gained 5 licences. Azerbaijan team gained 4 licences this time. They could not even repeat previous result.

Azerbaijan team gained 4 licences holding 13th place.
- Azerbaijan team gained not 5 but 4 licences.

Why do you think Azerbaijan gained 4 licences?
- According to the new regulations the licence balls depend on the last two world championship results.

We know it. You should also know that it is officially endorsed that Azerbaijan gained 5 licences...
- I do not have information about official decisions. I have bad relations with Vahid Nazarov. He did many stinky things against me. I can easily frustrate Azerbaijan team’s plans about the Olympic. Without Azerbaijani citizenship I played for the national team with false passport. I played with false passport in Dominican in 2006. This case may easily cause scandal and create problems between Azerbaijan and the International Weightlifting Federation.

Do you think to express your accusations officially?
- I do not accuse Azerbaijan team but Vahid Nazarov

This step will directly damage Azerbaijan team’s image as you know Azerbaijan team is composed of not only Vahid Nazarov
- Alibay Samadov competing for Azerbaijan in the last world championship may possibly have false passport. Secondly Alibay was born in 1979 but attended the competition of 25-year old athletes. It is another example how Vahid Nazarov makes sportsmen to play with false passport. If these facts are unveiled Azerbaijan team will stay out of the Olympic Games

Why did you decide to take such step against Azerbaijan team?
- I am still thinking over it. I have been played many tricks upon in Azerbaijan. Despite this I want you to publish my opinions.

You expose false cases in Azerbaijan team now. However you played for Azerbaijani team for along period. Is it fair step to do it know?
- We had every condition in Afsat Afsatov’s period. After Vahid Nazarov’s appointment as a head coach everything changed. I have been rumoured. I scored most points for Azeri team last year. I were in Azerbaijan I would score most points. Vahid Nazarov wanted to use me as an instrument in gaining licences for Olympic Games

Did all these happen in Afsat Afsatov’s time?
- It was illegal that I played for Azerbaijan team with false passport while not having national citizenship.

Who was responsible for this?
- The leadership was responsible. I had Azerbaijan passport while Afsar Afsatov was head coach.

Was Afsatov aware of this?
- I do not know. I only know that Afsatov had ID card and foreign passport. I had only foreign passport

Why did you stay silent being aware of these?
- Yes I stayed silent. I hurt my health for Azerbaijan team. I do not think to return to Azerbaijan and prefer to work in Russia.

Did anyone from Baku get in touch with you here?
- No. I just decided to works as coach immediately.

At the Worlds in 2006 he lifted well as a 105kg..whats interesting was that in 2003 in Vancouver he lifted as a SUPER. So he lost 10kg BW and then improved his lifts. I had my eye out for him in Chiang Mai....but a no show

A photo I took of him in Santo Domingo...not too shabby lifting!!
