Филимонов снова на помосте
Одним из громких событий второй летней Спартакиады Республики Казахстан стало участие в соревнованиях по тяжелой атлетике Сергея Филимонова. Уникальный по своим природным данным штангист после выступления на Олимпиаде в Афинах, где он завоевал серебряную медаль, объявил о завершении спортивной карьеры. Сергею уже тогда было за тридцать.


Жизнь Сергея Филимонова в течение последних трех лет остается темным пятном его биографии. Известно, что спортсмен продал свой дом в Уштобе, где он родился и вырос, развелся с женой. И совсем не тренировался. Правда, время от времени заглядывал в новый спортивный зал, построенный при республиканском колледже спорта специально для национальной сборной по тяжелой атлетике. Вдыхал знакомый воздух, говорил, что очень хотел бы вернуться в спорт, и уходил. Этим летом Сергей пришел в зал не просто так, а всерьез взялся за дело. Месяца тренировок ему хватило, чтобы вернуть форму почти на девяносто процентов.
Спартакиада стала первым стартом Филимонова после долгого перерыва. В соревнованиях штангистов со всех регионов республики он со второй попытки занял третье место, уступил лидерство другому алматинцу – Мухиту Усенбаеву (77 кг).
– Я мог поднять больше, и у меня была еще третья попытка, – сказал Сергей после соревнований. – Но я решил не форсировать события. Для начала мне хватит и «бронзы». Сейчас важнее вернуть на былой уровень все рабочие показатели.

Sergei Filimonov has again returned to the weightlifting platform, at the second summer Spartakiad of the Republic of Kazahkstan. After his appearance at the Athens Olympic Games, where he earned a silver medal, he had declared that he was retiring from sport as he was already 30 years old at the time. Little is known about the past three years after his retirement. It is known that he sold his house in Ushtobe, where he was born and raised, and started a family with his wife. During this time he was not training. True, he would glance into the new training hall, built by the Republic ministry of sport specifically for the national weightlifting. After the competition, Sergey was quoted as saying "I could have lifted more, and I still had a third attempt. But I decided that at the beginning, bronze will be sufficient."
