drop split snatches?
« on: Sep 04, 2007, 10:14 AM »

The discussion in another thread about Guy Greavette got me thinking (it happens once in a while). Due to shoulder problems I now do split style snatches; I can't even get half way down into a overhead squat, but I can split snatch quite easily.  The question is; Is there any value in drop snatching into a split?

Sounds like you would basically be doing BTN Split Jerks with a snatch grip.

I would think the biggest limiter in the split snatch would be pulling speed and height and not the strength of your catch position.  The split is a very stable position and you get plenty of practice with it in the jerk at heavier loads than you snatch.  So I would think you would be better off working on pulls rather than the split drop snatch.

Well if you can't do squat snatches, I would say they are very valuable.  :)thumbsup

If your shoulder issue is only temporary, then there probably isn't much point.

Oops, I thought you meant split snatches in general. Guy said that he quit doing them when he became proficient in the snatch. I would agree with that. If you can hit a deep split with a heavy weight, then you don't have much to gain from drop snatches.
