The "Guy's" name is Guy Greavette.  And don't hate him, most people shouldn't compare themselves to him, he did 152.5 and 185 @ 90kg at the '88 Olympics if I'm not mitaken.  He came in tenth.
Hi Walter
You are quite correct. In addition to his tenth placing at the 1988 Olympics,Guy Greavette also took the 82.5kg silver medal at the 1982
Commonwealth Games in Brisbane (320kg total) and the 90kg bronze at the 1986 Games in Edinburgh (340kg total).

I can remember seeing Guy compete at the 1990 Games in Christchurch, where he placed fourth in the 100kg division with lifts of 140,175-315. Looking back through old Commonwealth rankings,it appears that his alltime best totals were 342.5 (155,187.5) @90kg in May 1983 and 337.5 (152.5,1855) @82.5kg in June 1983.

Umm Walter, did you notice the smiley emoticon? Of course I don't actually hate the man. My item 1 is more like how I really feel.

Quin, is your Dad in the 94kg weight class? If so, those lifts are just phenomenal for that age/weight. They would
be great lifts for the 105kg weight class.  I glad I'm moving up to the 50-54 age group in two months!

Haha, of course I noticed and didn't think you ACTUALLY hated him.  I would be worried if somebody hated a lifter because he was good.

Walter

Walter, thank you the feedback. I post very little in the forums I read because it seems that quite often, what I say is taken wrong. Your first response almost scared me back into my hole for another year or so! LOL  Best regards.

Guy Greavette's best total that I can verify at this moment is 350 kg, done at the 1988 Canadian Championships. He snatched 155 kg and clean& jerked 195 according to the results printout sent to me from Aldo Roy

I have a listing of the pre-1993 Canadian records at the gym, I will check tomorrow

I know that in 88 at the Canadian Nationals he did a better total than the Olympics a few months later.  I think he only made 2 or 3 lifts at the games?

He has told me his best C&J in training is 202.5 kg! I think his best training snatch was about 165 (he told me he drop snatch 165 too!)

Hi Shaun
Thanks very much for that information. I checked back through my old copies of Denis Reno's "Weightlifters Newsletter" and sure enough,I found the results of the 1988 Candian Nationals where (as you said) Guy Greavette won the 90kg class with lifts of 155,195-350.Thanks again,Shaun - I'll update my files of old Commonwealth rankings accordingly.

Regards and best wishes

My best competition lifts were 158kg Snatch and 195kg C&J for a total of 352.5kg at a tournament in Greece just prior to the Olympic Games in 1988. I was very close to snatching 162.5kg and I cleaned 200.5 at this same tournament in the 90kg category. Rob Gray mentioned that I had drop snatched 165kg and this is incorrect. I did many drop snatches early in my career but stopped doing them once I moved up from the 75kg category to the 82.5kg category. My best drop snatch at 75kg bodyweight was 160kg.
