1st step in any warmup for me is to take a dose of ibuprofen

I second that! Alieve for me....
I also try to take a hot shower if possible.

Gentlemen,

Let's not forget the "Maddog" chaser. You will feel no Pain.

If I was doing any better, I would be twins!!!

Okay, I'll admit to my favorite post-traumaticworkout helper. A couple of 222s work wonders!  For people that aren't Canadian or Americans near the border, 222s are OTC (in Canada) aspirin with codeine. It's a small dose, but it sure helps me! ):wlfter

Shaun, I don't know if you meant that post to be humorous, but I sure thought it was funny. Kinda sad too, aging bodies, we do what we gotta do.

:) I was most definitely serious but I thought it was a funny thing to say as well. I'm only 30 but it's a funny age. I think masters consider me too young to talk of joint pains, and then others who have joint pain but are lifting serious weights don't think I lift enough, or hard enough to have valid pains

Warming up at meets is a little bit different than warming up during workouts because of the space and time constraints. Usually it's a cramped area so if a person is used to skipping rope for a few minutes he/she may have to go elsewhere to do that. I think it's important to do some light activity for all involved joints prior to even touching the bar or stretching though.

My philosophy, handed down to me from Glen Dodds (Canadian lifter in the 80s and a couple times in the 90s) is to do as many sets of doubles with like 40 kg as I feel I need to do, and then progress briskly up in weight doing just singles until my attempts. I think that addresses both the need for warmup and energy conservation.
