Need advice on weightlifting shoes?
« on: Jul 25, 2007, 03:37 AM »
Hello all.
I'm fairly new to weightlifting and have been advised to get myself a pair of weightlifting shoes, the problem is I'm not sure what I should get. Keep in mind though i do want to compete and its not just for training purposes.
Thanks in advance.
Brogan.

I would go with the Do Win weightlifting shoes that Glenn Pendlay sells.  They are great shoes and also the most affordable.

Weightlifting shoes are great.  Once you lift in them, you will probably never want to lift and train in any other shoes :)thumbsup   There are not a mandatory competition item, but all lifters wear them because they really help.  The only thing you really need to contemplate on purchasing a shoe is heel height.  If you have trouble getting into a full squat position without your heels raising off the floor, get higher heeled weightlifting shoes.  The higher wedged shoes will even help your snatch if you have tight shoulders.

I like the VS Athletic shoes for price, high heel and looks for the beginner.  The shoe sells for $59.95 + shipping.  http://www.vsathletics.com/product.php?xProd=1301&xSec=136 is the website for the shoe.

Dynamic Eleiko sells the Adidas shoes.  These have a much smaller heel wedge and are a pretty light shoe.  I have read some complaints about the newer shoes not holding up to much abuse but I have had mine for over a year and they still look and feel very good.  The Adidas shoes are the most expensive running $120 and up + shipping.
http://www.dynamic-eleiko.com is the website.  Click on Products and then click on Adidas Weightlifting Shoes.

Werksan Barbell also sells shoes.  They have 4 shoe styles on their website.  http://www.werksan.com  Click on Products and then click on Shoes, Shirts and Wraps.  The shoes run from $85 to $105 plus shipping.

There is also a company in Canada that makes a nice looking shoe for $120 shipping included.  The nice thing with their shoe is that you send them a tracing of your feet and they send you the best fitting shoe.  The website is http://www.weightliftingshoes.ca

Good luck.  ):wlfter
