According to the Golden Standard formula, which is the most accurate, scientifically validated bodyweight correction formula, Oscar Chaplin III has the greatest snatch in American history with a 166kg snatch @ 85kg bodyweight which is 99.447% of average world class performance.

I really have to say that it was Pete Rawluks' US record of 296&1/2 lbs at the 1968 Jr Nationals in Milwaukee. The lift broke Tommy Konos' US (and former WR) record which was about ten years old. Pete had a spectacular snatching style. He would crouch over the bar, opening and closing his hands and settling slowly into his start position for long seconds and then explode. His receiving position was rock-bottom with his butt just barely clearing the platform. At this meet; he was the favorite, but no-one expected him to set a new AR (except maybe for Pete and his team-mates).

How does Cal Shacke's 152.5 in the 75s rate?

That was the first double body weight snatch by an American wasn't it?

without checking any formulas, I think the best are:

1. Oscar's 165.5 @ 82.2
2. Jeff Michel's 188 @ 108.9
3. Shane's 197.5
4. Tim McRae's 135 @ 64

Jim,

Cal Shake's golden standard percentage is 5th on the list of All-Time American Records.

1) Oscar ChaplinIII 166@85=99.44689652
2) Oscar Chaplin III 157.5@77=99.43937713
3) Tim McRae 135@64=97.99112514
4) Lee James 167.5@90=97.89407371
5) Cal Shake 152.5@75=97.86698891

But, I don't know for sure if he was the first American to snatch double bodyweight, but it sure seems like he must be...

Two great snatches by US lifters have been overlooked, one, Albert Hood's 112.5 as a 56 in the 1984 Olympics, and two, Tony Urritia's 150 snatch as a 75 in the 1988 Olympics.
