Goyang of South Korea hosts 2009 world weightlifting championships
Goyang of South Korea will host the world weightflting championships in 2009 and the top official showed optimism towards the preparation work of the competition.
The weightlifting governing body International Weightlifting Federation announced on the annual congress that Goyang hosted the worlds in 2009, one of the qualification competitions for the London Olympic Games in 2012.
"It is the first time in the South Korea history to host the world championships. I am optimistic about the number of the participants because I think lifters are eager to win the Olympic berths in Goyang," said Choi Sung-yong, the vice-president of the South Korea Weightlifting Association.
Goyang, one of the core satellite cities of Seoul, is the host city of Under-17 FIFA World Cup in 2007. It takes 30 minutes from Goyang to the airport in Seoul.
