Olympic Competitor Shane Hamman in Harrah Today
By Eric Bradshaw
The Harrah First Assembly of God will host former U.S. Olympic weighlifting competitor Shane Hamman during its 10:45 a.m. service today.
The two-time Olympian said his grandparents had attended the church at one time before moving to Mustang, where Hamman grew up and graduated high school. The now Colorado resident said he knew the church’s pastor, Tony Alvarez.
Hamman told The Sun he planned to tell his story all the way from growing up in Mustang to becoming an Olympian. He will also show several videos and commercials, he said.
According to Hamman’s profil on the U.S. Olympic Team Website, he finished seventh in 2004 and 10th in 2000. He is considered the strongest man in American and holds three American records in the 105 plus kilogram weight class.
The Website also notes that Hamman hoisted a one-time record of 1,008 lbs. in the squat and in 1999 was the first U.S. man to win a weightlifting gold medal at the Pan Am Games. He also has a standing vertical leap of 36 inches and can perform a standing back flip.
