Four Team Cannon Lifters Compete and Two Qualify for USAW Schoolage Nationals
by Mike Dalton

Four members of Team Cannon, the high school weightlifting team, competed at the LWC championship meet at Front Recreation Center in St. Paul on Saturday, March 24.

Megan Ripley, Shannon Ripley, Patrick Dougherty and Ryan McMorrow competed, and all had good days, coach Beth Ripley said.

Megan Ripley lifts in the 48 kg. weight class, and set a new personal record for the snatch (37 kg.) and personal total (84 kg.). Shannon Ripley lifts in the 69 kg. class and set two new personal records, with 61 kg. in the clean & jerk and total of 110 kg.

Dougherty and McMorrow were both trying to qualify to go to school-age nationals in June, and both succeeded.

Dougherty lifts in the 69 kg. weight class and needed a total of 100 kg. to qualify. He not only exceeded that but set three new personal records, with a snatch of 45 kg., clean & jerk of 58 kg. and a total of 103 kg.

McMorrow lifts in the 94 kg. weight class, and needed to record a total of 107 kg. to advance. He also set three new personal records with a 50 kg. snatch, a 61 kg. clean & jerk and 111 kg. total.

The meet was an open meet, which meant all ages could compete. Megan Ripley came home with a 1st place medal, Shannon Ripley took 2nd and Dougherty and McMorrow took 3rd.

School-age nationals will take place June 28-July 1 in Springfield, MO.
