Looks to me like you moved your feet too slowly. You could probably get more split too.

ya i think your right there ryan. thinking back on the lift my split did feel a bit slower than usual. possibly the effort exerted in the clean contributed to this. regarding the split, i usually split quite short and deep, it feels more comfortable for me than the longer split and straighter rear leg. i felt as though i should hav got the jerk as i locked out the arms though. i must hav locked out quicker than i comfortably assumed a solid split position though. thanks for the feedback, if you notice anything else feel free to let me know!

I cant see too much wrong with the jerk. Perhaps your timing was a little off and you just caught it slightly in front, or perhaps you lost concentration a little. Either way, I wouldnt obsess over this one lift.

One thing i did notice in you clean though was how little your feet shift out after the second pull. Have you ever played around with a narrower foot stance, with toes pointed out a little more?

ya ive changed from a narrower stance to the wider stance you see on the video gradually over the last few months. tommy hayden actually mentioned this to me at the session and suggested a narrower stance. but i find it more natural and comfortable for myself to start like this. it's a similar stance in the snatch aswel. if you look at neil dougan's lifts on the gmail account you'l notice that even though he's of similar build and height as me he adopts a much narrower stance. maybe that just works better for him, i dont know. do you think that the wide stance that im using is isn't as effective as a narrower stance?

A slightly narrower stance will allow for you to pull the bar slightly more higher. Point to maybe consider is that everything, including bad technique, will feel comfortable after doing it for a while.

By the way, whats the gmail account? Does it contain more video from the Irish squads. PM if you want.

Cathal, Peter is right... the simple theory is that if your stance is narrower, when you fully extend, the bar will be higher. Full extention from a wide stance will see the bar be slightly lower.

However it is important that you are comfortable in the start position. A narrow stance may not suit your specific body type. We are all different.

For some people, I know it can be difficult to keep the knees out in the start position when a narrow stance is used.

ya that's actually the main reason why i adopted the wider stance as it allowed me to open up my body more in the start position and point the knees out. i found that my knees inverted slightly with a narrower stance. since using the wider stance my lifts hav gone up so it must be benefiting me in some way. il just have to see where it takes me and adjust if i feel the need or if i feel like im stagnating... ne other suggestions or thoughts lads?
