Leg Pressing

Quick question. I can't squat for now because it hurts my knees when I go deep into. The patellar tendon is swollen on both knees, especially the right. I have been leg pressing since the pain is basically none even using heavy weights. My question is: how can I train the leg press to suit me better for the lifts? As in using heavy weights and low reps as 3-5 or basically higher reps of 10-12. Someone told me that if I were to leg press everyday instead of squatting, I should treat the leg press the same and make it heavy and using 3-5 reps. Thanks!
