Both Richard Found and Buck Ramsay posting in this thread? Speaking of huge snatches and clean & jerks? As if they themselves were not capable of lifting huge slabs of the Great Canadian Shield!

Several years ago in Milo Magazine Dimas claimed(can't remember exactly but around about) 280 front and 320 back. I'm sure someone here has read that article and can clarify it.

All the numbers looks a little bit too much for my ears:

Dimas - on video he is doing let's say easily doubles with 200kg (I think his max FSQ should be up to 250kg) and his back squat max. up to 280kg! Have in mind his BW too!

Dursen Sevinc - I'm doubtfull of his 400kg back squat (if we talking about oly style no wraps, belts, suit etc.). Just have in mind Botev's hardly done 320kg squat and Reza's let's say easy double with 305kg (from that we can theoreticaly deduct a maximum of around 350kg). 400kg is still far away!!

That's my opinion!

Leighton Dougall thank you. I just wanted to know how much his back squat was at his best! Don't start talking unnessecary about how you are amazed by big snatch or clean and jerk if someone is smart enough he'll know the answer for that! Anyway thank you guys if you want to talk about snatch and clean and jerks! Write an article about them and motivate people by putting the benefints of them and back them with scientific stuff they'll love it! I founded olympic lifting way too late after researching for alot of time anyway you have to tell them the facts and fight the myths that are out there! If anyone of you has the time and knowledge do it please and help people to get benefits from what they are doing in anysport!

Hi Gabriel (and any others who may be interested)
Just a little information which may help:

In an article about Olympic lifting on his PPF website last year (October) Marty Gallagher mentioned that he had seen some of the video 'training hall clips' taken by Randy Strossen (Iron Mind) at different World championships, etc; which showed the impressive squatting abilities of various top International lifters.I haven't personally seen any of these tapes myself, but apparently one of them shows Pyrros Dimas front squatting 280kgs!!,while another (1998,I think) has Dursen Sevinc front squatting the same weight!.

Concerning Stefan Botev's squatting abilities,in a brief interview conducted with Bill Shine at the 1990 Goodwill Games in Spokane,WA; Botev stated that his personal bests were 330x1 and 290x1 on the back and front squats respectively (refer the September 1990 issue of Denis Reno's 'Weightlifters Newsletter"-page 9) - this,BTW,was several years before Botev moved up from the 110kg division.

Regards and best wishes

Just so the folks who were interested in knowing about some big squats, I'll share what I know so no one goes on thinking I'm a complete **** for the rest of their lives.

First off, my point about the snatch and clean and jerk was to inspire lifters without "huge" numbers in their assistance exercises to lift more weight in the competition lifts.  With the right amount of focus and attention to detail in the lifts, a lifter can achieve a success in weightlifting without being a monster powerlifter.  That being said, everyone needs to squat as even the best technicians cannot clean and jerk much more than they can front squat, if even.

As for some real numbers pertaining to spacific lifters and their squats, I know this because I've heard it from the horse's mouth and reliable sources who won't be named.

Dursen Sevinc currently lives in the same metropolis as me (Toronto area) and I've had several occasions to speak to him regarding weightlifting.  He has verbally confirmed with me that his best front squat is 300kg and his best back squat was 400kg.  I have a video of him squatting 280kg with a belt, no suit and no knee bandages.  No I can't post it because I don't have the technology or the copyrights.

Another associate of mine, who was a member of the Syrian National team and trained with Hussein in the past, reported Hussein back squatting 400kg for 3 reps to a friend of mine who asked about international lifters squatting capabilities.  Hussein's deadlift was reported to be in the same range.

Knowing this and reading articles about Dimas, it is reasonable to deduct that he was a monster squatter relative to his bodyweight.

Hope this was encouraging and informative.

Richard

Thanks you guys! Richard I can't judge you because I don't know you! Your and Ronald's infromation was very helpful! Anyway I just wanted to know how strong weightlifters are! Thanks again guys! I've heard also that weightlifter's can bench alot even though they haven't trained for bench press! I've heard that Hossein Rezazadeh benching over 600pounds! I heard also that some weightlifter have deadlifted over 1000 pounds!

actually, in a 1999 issue of MILO there was an article about Dimas which stated that he had a Front Squat max of 270 and Back Squat max of 320
