What is with Powerlifters?

Why does it seem that every single powerlifter thinks they know how to train for olympic weightlifting better than olympic weightlifter?

Why is it every single OL Lifter thinks Oly lifters know how to train for powerlifting better than PLers do?

Wait, I guess you dont like blanket statements that include errors made in assumption about you either do you...

Maybe next time you might try using your head before you put your tongue to work.

There are a lot of similarities between powerlifting and weightlifting, brother sports (minus the gear in powerlifting). What bothers me is when someone who does or has not done either tries to tell me about my sport, like say a football coach, or a swimming coach, etc, etc. Or, how about someone who is a beginner telling a more advanced lifter whats wrong with what their doing?

Its easy to be annoyed in life. But, then, life is short and its just not worth it.  8)

Good point Chris, well said.

On that note, I used to train for power lifting for a few yrs before I switched to OL. During that time I trained with 4-5 different crews in 3-4 different cities in Canada. Throughout that entire time of training I trained with probably 60-70 different powerlifters. Many of whom are current or past national champions and even world competitors and masters world champions. In the 9 billion or so conversations about OL, I dont think anyone has ever tried to be an authority on the issue what so ever except for this one guy I know who actually studied Kinesiology and had some knowledge on the issue. Hence my disgust at such a general sweeping statement made earlier.

But, I digress, once again Chris, you shed some all too needed light on a subject. Thanks. [no sarcasm intended :)]

Paul,

My #2 coach is a former powerlifter, not even a star though I think he could have been if he started much younger. I think he could have been a star weightlifter as well. But, I listen to him (not so much about technique) because of his intellect and wisdom.

I always love when people come up to me in a street corner gym and tell me how I shouldn't squat so deep since it will hurt my knees or something. I usually just smile and tell them I've been doing it for 20 years without a single knee injury as a result of squatting.

Like I said, its easy to get annoyed in this life, but that isn't a lot of fun.

Cheers

since i go to a school with a lot of football based kids who carelessly workout, i always get annoyed by the kids telling me how to workout and their theory on working out. it is pretty much usual basic gym powerlifting theory.
Rule#1- Lift!!!

Rule#2- Lifting=life. So when lifting is good, life is good. Everything else is unnecessary details.

Rule #3- No excuses. lift  like a champion

I considered removing both Matt and Paul's first post, but I don't think it is a personal attack in either case. I think we all just have a case of the Monday's. Of course, one of the other moderators can choose to remove it if they wish and then all the moderators would all vote on whether it is appropriate and should be restored or not, per our policy. But, I'm hoping we can just move on instead, without a lot of acrimony.  :D
