The Associated Press

Published: October 6, 2006

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic Kazakh teenager Ilya Ilin retained his crown at 94 kilograms (207 pounds) in a three-way tie for the lead at the world weightlifting championships on Friday.

The 18-year-old Ilin, last year's world lifter of the year, repeated his feat of 2005 when he won the senior and junior world titles. He successfully defended his junior title in June at Hangzhou, China.

Ilin, Szymon Kolecki of Poland and Roman Konstantinov of Russia each totaled 392 kilograms (862 pounds), but Ilin won on bodyweight by just 35 grams. Kolecki beat Konstantinov to silver by 16 grams.

Konstantinov won the snatch gold medal, and Kolecki the clean and jerk gold.

Ilin's 217 (477 pounds) clean was good enough for the overall gold, then the youngest lifter in the division missed attempts at the clean world record of 233 kilos (512 pounds).

Saturday's marquee event, the super heavyweight class, features Iran's world champion Hossein Reza Zadeh, who has said he will shoot for a world record in all three categories.

well 202 and 246 arent exactly world records or even close to, those are pretty much warm up weights for him...
