Dimas/Kaki Power Jerk
« on: Sep 27, 2006, 04:31 PM »
Anybody ever heard of the reason either of these guys power jerked (versus split) in competition?  Dimas was split jerking into the early 90s I believe, but Kakiashvilis may always have done it as far as I know.

I asked one of the Greek national coaches and told me about that.

Kakiashvilis started doing power jerk because of an injury at his waist. After the recovery, because of the good results he continued doing power jerk.

Dimas had some technique problems with split jerk so he tried power jerk. Practically he had good results so he continued too doing power jerk instead of split.

Both of them had very powerful legs and very good balance at power jerk. If you see a video at Olympics Dimas could lower to catch the weight without missing it in front of him or backwards. This is because of the balance they have.

Another major reason, was that they felt comfortable with power jerk. Many athletes have also powerful legs and but psychological factors prevent them to achieve better results with power jerk.
