Turkey to host 2010 Worlds:

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) decided at its meeting in the Dominican Republic that Turkey will host the World Weightlifting Championships in October 2010. Speaking after the meeting, IWF President Tamas Ajan asserted that the weightlifting world was “going through a tsunami,” referring to the increased number of athletes resorting to doping. Ajan said many athletes from Russia, Iran, Thailand, Kazakhstan and Albania had tested positive recently for banned substances or drugs. “Everyone should take after Turkey in the fight against doping. The Turkish Weightlifting Federation has suspended some Turkish athletes based on tests conducted on its own. All countries must be as determined to achieve results.”

This is baloney in the extreme. Turkey just got popped and suspended from WADA and/or IWF tests, threatened the testers there to collect their samples with violence, and then gets applauded for their efforts and awarded the world championships?

I think the IWF is on some mind-altering drugs of their own if they think Turkey is a model of anti-doping efforts.
