Weight Reccomendations
« on: Sep 10, 2006, 02:40 PM »
I just started weightlifting 3 months ago. I have my first competition on Sept 16. I normally weigh 64 kilos. But I am going 62 kilos. At 62 I will qualify for collegiate nationals with my openers. And be about 15 kilos shy of American Open with my closers. Should I go up to 69 next year or what does everyone recommend.

When you normally weight only 2kg above the category is not a problem to drop it. Next year is far now. You will see the changes on your body (your normal weight).
I competed in 63kg in my first year in armwrestling (normally weighted 68-69kg).
Last year and this year Im in 70kg (I weighted max. 73-74kg uff...). I want to stay in touch with 70kg.
WL (70+95)
PWL (130+115+165) *raw
BW (69-76kg)

Ryan,

You are tall for the 62kg class, but I would still suggest staying down as long as you are getting better AND as long as you aren't killing yourself (halting your progress) to do it since I think you could reduce that bodyfat % a little without jeopardizing results. The time will come, if you stick with this sport, where you will need to move up, for sure.

I'm glad you came up with this post because I'm having the same problem. Although I have been lifting for almost 2 years now. I'm only 5'4" tops and have about 9-10% BF as well. I have done 95 and 115 at my best but have been stalled there for almost 6 months. This past weekend I competed and only made 85 and 105. It may be because we didn't lower the loads for this meet, but I also went from 65.4kg to 62.0kg in only 2-3 days. It has been my goal to make 100 - 125 at 62 and I think it's possible. I'm preparing for the national university championship in late November and hope to make this total. After that I may be going up to 69kg.
