Watching weightlifting exchange videos
« on: Sep 08, 2006, 04:36 AM »
I understand the reason why the videos were changed so that you couldnt download them.
Other websites were taking the viedos and using them without giving credit to the weightlifting exchange.
However this is unfortunate for us because I do not enjoy watching the videos in there current streaming format as much as before.  Now that the videos are being streamed, you cannot watch the videos in full screen mode.  Also if you want to watch a video, you have to wait for it to buffer for a time period, even if you have watched it before.  Whereas previously once you had downloaded the video you could watch it as many times as you wanted without having to wait fot it to buffer again.
Furthermore I like to use the media player classic video player which allows you watch the clips in 1/2 or 1/4 speed, or replay any section of the video over and over again, something which you cant do currently.

I hope me pointing these things out doesnt make Chris angry.  Its just that I really used to enjoy watching the videos as I downloaded them previously.
Is there anyway we can allow some of the videos to be downloaded, without risking other websites nicking the videos.  Perhaps introduce a new forum section for paying members only who have a certain number of posts. Then some of the videos would be able to be downloaded on request?

Anymore ideas or does nobody else think this is a problem?

Leighton,

Thanks for sharing. I am certainly not angry. However, some of your issues may be partially solvable.  :D

1) You can view the videos in full screen mode. Once buffering is complete, right click on the video and select 'zoom' and 'full screen.' Also, once the video has been viewed, it should be faster to view if watched immediately following the first view.

2) If you use quicktime media player, you can view frame by frame. If you use windows media player, you can click and drag the playhead as fast or slow as you desire.

I am sorry for you to say we will not be switching away from streaming. Streaming has some advantages as well as disadvantages, including helping those with slow internet connections to watch our videos. And, yes, we spend too much time, money, and effort to make and produce our content in order to have other sites steal them. I do not wish to make this a pay site, for many reasons.

I hope this helps.

Chris

Ok I see how to watch the videos in full screen now, I must have tried it before and tried to change the zoom to 200% and it didnt work, not realizing you could watch it in full screen mode.
Thanks for the response.

Couldn't you just put an image in the corner stating weightlifting exchange?

Yes, I could. But, that clutters up the video, doesn't help those with slow internet connections like streaming does, and doesn't necessarily prevent someone from downloading the videos, editing out the logo, and reposting it on other sites. There are other reasons as well why we will not be switching from streaming.

I am truly sorry for those disappointed, but its a free site and I think a minor inconvenience. I have much more video I think will be of interest that will be posted regularly and I hope all will enjoy it.

Cheers

format
There is no shortage of stories where a small business person has been hit with tens of thousands or more of legal costs from their own lawyers. Then there is the potential of having to pay for the other sides legal costs if the small business person loses

Yes Full screen mode works ok as I said earlier.
The 2* zoom doesnt work but fullscreen is better anyway.
