A Few Ideas To Make Weightlifting More Popular In America
« Reply #8 on: Sep 05, 2006, 07:07 PM »
Paul,

1) No reason to turn down the music, ever. I am a weightlifter, and I say play on!!!

2) I am sure the USAW can get the licensing necessary to sell alcohol at meets and am sure it will be profitable.

3) As for gambling, I could do that on my own....piece of cake. I may do it....

4) Use video technology- expensive. I need support! The membership of The Weightlifting Exchange may well be enough to get it done. I'm betting it will be. I intend to make it happen, and those that know me.....

5) Get the refs out of the contest! Yea, the refs mean well, but good riddance!!!

6) Long socks are okay, but not as cool as a track singlete, and they aren't required, unfortunately.

7) NOT JOKING ONE BIT!!!!  :D    8)

What are your thoughts on having multiple platforms?

Jesse,

I don't think we have enough nationally/internationally certified refs to do it. And, personally, I don't like it because the "lifter" isn't 'center stage'.

I personally dislike the multiple platform meet....

Cheers

5) Dont get em out, theyre good ornaments ;)

6) I think its a fashion preference, not a rule preference youre looking for ;)

1) Yes, at the Arnold, the lifters get to pick their own music. But, this is labor intensive and requires someone supervising the audio system- an extra person- BUT I'M ALL FOR IT!!!

6) Long socks are fine, but if you are going to require those, you might as well just require the long singlete....IMHO

these are all great ideas. but i would think about the rules of weightlifting. would IWF really change the rules to make weightlifting more popular?? seriously doubt it. as for everything else. why the hell not!!!
Rule#1- Lift!!!

Rule#2- Lifting=life. So when lifting is good, life is good. Everything else is unnecessary details.

Rule #3- No excuses. lift  like a champion

how bout a thumb tack  lift, if you miss the lift and fall back wards  on your  ass you get  a but full of tacks ! or a metal chair match in witch your opponent sneaks up behind you  as you finnish the snatch or  jerk and smacks you with a metal chair (my favorite) , if you hold the lift its good ,  but hey how about  good looking  girls in thongs loading up the bars on the platform ??  the rock music is a  cool   idea,  alcohol, well its a good   thought, if people get a wrist  band  that gets  punched out after so many your done , i seen  alchohol  get out of hand at concerts of  all types of music   concerts , except a barry manilow concert  of wich i refuse to attend!  i agree with chris  , there needs to be more of a draw  to get more people in  the the meets aka , the arnold  example.... last but  not least,  hire  vince mcmahan of wwe the promote!!!lol  have a good day guys [/b]

Sounds great to me! Perhaps we need a bouncer or two on duty....a minor expense compared to the revenue alcohol sales will bring in.

Make sure to play some AC/DC or Van Halen. Nothing better to try to break your concentration.

It worked for Pete Rose, until he got caught

It would be nice to have some consistent refereeing, unlike some of the Pro sports.
If I was doing any better, I would be twins!!!
