Berube Wins 3rd National Weightlifting Championship

COLORADO SPRINGS — Jackie Berube has picked up a gold medal as a weightlifter at the USA national championships.
Berube, a native of Escanaba, won the 58 kg division with 245.6888 points at the national championship in Shreveport, La. Aug. 11-13. Berube trains at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Amanda Hubbard was second with 228.877 points and Sarah Davis won the bronze medal with 203.603 points.
Cheryl Haworth and Kendrick Farris earned the title of best lifters at the tournament. Haworth won the women’s 75-plus kg weight class with 270 points and Farris won the men’s 85 kg division with 411.0747 points.
Berube was also gold medalist in 2002 and 2004 at the senior national championships, was a gold medalist at the 2004 Olympic team trials and won the 2000 American Open gold medal.
In 2002 she finished 19th at the Senior World Championships.
