Eric,

I have been where you are. Use a broomstick, the bar, 30kg, etc, whatever it takes to do the full movement correctly. Practice for as long as it takes. Eventually you will be able to concentrate on increasing weight. In the mean time go nuts with pulls, squats, deadlifts or benches. Have patience. It took me four months to squat snatch the bar. If I can squat snatch, ANYBODY can. Make haste slowly.

Thanks for the advice everyone and words of encouragement!

I actually figured it out yesterday at practice, and it was the simpliest thing! All I needed to do was twist my arms so my elbows were facing out. I've been learning so much about the lifts that I've been forgetting to do that one thing. I'm now able to keep my arms straight and get my shrug in.

I can now get all the way down to the floor in one motion! Thanks again everyone!

Something else I did, Eric. I went to Home Depot and got about 6 feet of 3/4" galvanized pipe--stuff's cheap--and 2 tiny C clamps. I started with two 10lb plates on the end, just enough to feel like something was on the bar and worked up to 2 25lb plates on the bar then went to the regular bar. Hope this helps, see you in Trumbull in August.

that you are not arm pulling when you snatch and clean. i find that when i allow my kids to pwr snatch they get into bad habits when they are pulling. remember the snatch and clean are nothing more than missed pwr snatch and missed pwr cleans. they should look the same other than the depth of the receiving position.

Good idea John! I'll definitely be seeing you in August, I may have the homefield advantage though seeing how I live in Trumbull and work at that facility :wink:

You should come down and train at Gary's sometime!
