Barb Boyer Claims Gold at Masters Pan Am Weightifting Championships

ALBURG, Vt. — Barb Boyer, a native of Champlain now residing in Alburg, competed in the Pan-American Masters Weightlifting Championships July 1-2 in St.Sauveur, Que. Boyer took the gold in her age group and weight class, as well as being honored as the best lifter in her age group.

With a snatch lift of 40 kg., and a clean and jerk lift of 53 kg., for a total of 93 kg., Boyer set three new Pan-American weightlifting records. The previous record total was 85 kg., which she set at the 2004 Pan-American Championships in Savannah, Ga.

During the next eight weeks, Boyer will continue training under the guidance of her coach Jackie Simonsen in preparation for the World Masters' Weightlifting Championships Aug. 26 in Bordeaux, France.
