Jenn Buckner Wins USAW Collegiate Championships
 
Jenn Buckner, a nursing student at Arizona State University, finished first in her division at the recent collegiate weightlifting national championships in Merrillville, Ind.

Buckner became the first Native American woman to medal at the championships. She finished first in the snatch at 80 kilograms (176 pounds) and first in the clean and jerk at 110 kilograms (242) in the 75+ kilogram weight class.

Mesa Community College's Matt Edge placed second in the 105-kilogram weight class. ASU's Danny Schlag placed third in the 85-kilogram division. Schlag and Edge are Mountain View High graduates.

MCC's Veronica Sanchez of Chandler competed in her first national meet and finished sixth in the 53-kilogram class.
