River Ridge's Ric Hartwell Wins Bronze at FHSAA 1A State Championships

River Ridge's Ric Hartwell led all county entrants at the state boys weightlifting meet April 21-22 at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville.

Hartwell placed third in the Class 2A, 183-pound class with a 655-pound total. He had a 350-pound bench press and 305-pound clean and jerk to exceed his sectional total by 40 pounds.

Mitchell's Matt Monaco was sixth at 154 with a 545-pound total, 10 more than his sectional total. He benched 310 and put up 235 in the clean and jerk.

Ridgewood's Travis Bonder (275-210-485) was 11th at 139, River Ridge's Stephen Songhurst (200-185-385) 15th at 129 and Wesley Chapel's Craig Johnson (340-230-570) 15th at heavyweight.

Ridgewood's Ben Perry had a 290-pound bench but scratched on the clean and jerk to place 16th at 199.

In Class A, Pasco's Todd Jeter parlayed a personal-best 260-pound clean and jerk into fourth place at 183. He added a 320-pound bench for a 580 total.

Hudson's Gerard Jameson placed fifth at 139. He had a 250-pound bench and 210 clean and jerk for a 460 total.

Zephyrhills' John Reubens was sixth at 119 with a 360-pound total. He had a 205-pound bench and 155-pound clean and jerk.

Pasco's McClain Bryant, Ray Groover and Justin Jordan also competed. Bryant (300-290-590) was ninth at 219, Groover (220-205-425) 13th at 139 and Jordan (275-215-490) 15th at 169.

Tyler Powell of Zephyrhills had a 205-pound bench but scratched on his clean-and-jerk attempt at 129.
