Blountstown's Arsenio Ivory Wins 3rd FHSAA 1A State Championship

Blountstown senior Arsenio Ivory won his third consecutive state title in a third different weight class at the FHSAA Finals in boys weightlifting Friday. Ivory, competing in the 189-pound bracket in the Class A competition, had a bench press of 405 pounds and clean-and-jerk of 350 pounds for a 755 total - 150 pounds better than the second-place finisher. Ivory helped lead the Tigers to the team crown in 2004 by winning the 154-pound bracket. Ivory easily won at 169 pounds last year with a lift total of 690 pounds. William Granger of Florida High placed second at 238 pounds with a 730 total (450 bench press and 280 clean-and-jerk). Blountstown placed fourth in the Class A team standings with 13 points, also getting an eighth-place finish from Justin Godwin (405 total) at 129; a fourth from Britt Wood (465) at 139; a fourth-place 640 total from Joshua Lee at 199.

Godby's Frank Grimes was third in the heavyweight class with a 710 total, while teammate Marcus Udell was eighth at 183 with a 535 total. Altha's Chris McCroan was ninth with a 535 total because Udell weighed less. Wakulla got an eighth-place finish from Darrion Wilson with a 595 total in the 219 class. Vernon's Rolando Brown was fourth in the heavyweight class with 685. In Class 2A, Chiles' Derrick Conyers was 10th in the 219 class with a 595 total.
