Its very amusing to me that at this point, where the corruption of the "drug testing system" is so utterly blatant, that anyone would wish to compete in this system intending to do so cleanly. Why bother? Would I care about a football game where the other side is spotted 100 points? No, I wouldn't play.

IWF pays second instalment; lifters cleared for Asian Championship

NEW DELHI: Indian Weightlifting Federation has paid the international parent body second instalment fine of $75,000 out of $5 lakh imposed on it after six lifters flunked WADA tests last year and is fielding a 19-member team in Asian Youth and Junior Championships at Tashkent from April 7-16.

International Weightlifting Federation had on March 31 accepted IWF's proposal to pay the $5 lakh fine in four instalments and the national body had given first instalment of $50,000 in January before the South Asian Games in Bangladesh.

The international body had set April 4 deadline for the second instalment, July 15 for the third instalment of $1 lakh and August 15 for the fourth and final instalment of $2,75,000 if Indian lifters are to take part in international events including October 3-14 Commonwealth Games.

IWF Secretary Sahdev Yadav said the national body had paid the second instalment amount to the international federation before the April 4 deadline and that is why the youth and junior lifters are participating in the Asian event.

"We have paid the second instalment fine before deadline. We want exposure of the young lifters at the international level," he said.

The Asian Youth Men and Women Championships, which will serve as the qualifying event for the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in August, is from April 7-11 while the Asian Junior Men and Women Championships will be held from April 12-16.

The Squads:

Youth Boys: Adimalla Anand (50kg), Madhusudan Janghel (56kg).

Youth Girls: Paul Nadar Lakshmi Priya (44kg), Matsa Santoshi (48kg), Pramila Krisani (53kg), Kopparthi Shireesha (58kg), Budumuru Rajeswari (69kg). Manager: Abraham K Techi.

Junior Boys: Swapnil Ghagare (56kg), Yukar Sibi (62kg), Gaurav Dubey (69kg), Anupdeo Toppo (77kg), Jaswant Singh (85kg), Vivek Kumar (94kg), V Prabhakar (+105kg) .

Junior Girls: Matsa Santoshi (48kg), Seera Chandra Kala (63kg); Gara Aruna Rani (63kg); Reena (69kg); Srishti Singh (75kg); Khwairakpam Premila Devi (75kg).

I was at a convention for gym owners from all around the world. At the dinner banquet I was fortunate to have a group from India at our table.  We got around to talking about weightlifting and the people from India became very upset about the doping situation. They blamed no one except there own country and how it has brought embarrassment to there country. It was sad in a lot of ways, and they were pretty clear that it was isolated instances.  They were very upset that the actions of a few could bring down a whole sport.  They had athletes at there gym who were and had been training for many very hard and they were very disgusted with the whole situation.  It seems to me after talking to these very nice people there has to be a better way to deal with these situations. It just left a bad taste in my mouth that the innocent get punished for the actions of the guilty.  Just my two cents, I can tell you these people were very upset and disgusted with the cheaters.

in many countries the "cheaters" by definition are the ones that get caught  :)wink

Dr. Ottavio Cinquanta, IOC member and President of the International Skating Union. After having introduced Dr. Cinquanta to all the members of the board, President Urso gives him the floor. Dr. Cinquanta says how privileged he feels to be amongst representatives of one of the world’s oldest sports. He informs the delegates about the situation at an Olympic level, explaining that the IOC had intended to eliminate one sport from the Olympic programme and that he made it a personal endeavour to ensure that weightlifting was not the sport to go. However, he appeals to the EWF to continue their fight against doping, the plague which is putting our sport at risk. He also invites the EWF to underline the importance of this concept to the IWF President, Dr. Tamas Ajàn. The IOC has made the definitive decision to eliminate one sport from the programme in 2020, continues Dr. Cinquanta, and he sincerely hopes that weightlifting will not pay the highest price.
There is no shortage of stories where a small business person has been hit with tens of thousands or more of legal costs from their own lawyers. Then there is the potential of having to pay for the other sides legal costs if the small business person loses

Its not really cheating if the system encourages and allows it, as I believe it does. End drug testing is my prescription. It is a failure and will never, ever work.

Such a true statement.  I probably should not have piped in on this discussion because I do not have a remote clue of any type or form of solution for the problem. The only thing that remotely makes sense to me is more random testing, that is also flawed as new drugs are constantly being developed that the tests cannot detect. No testing would be a answer. In my opinion the drug testers have done a good job at convincing the public testing works. Now testing has become big business and a source of power for those who do not deserve power.  Which leads me back to my original statement, I know of no solution.
