Recovering from a torn labrum
« on: Feb 20, 2006, 02:05 PM »
If there was still a master's forum, I would have posted this question there...

I'm 48yrs and just got started on my competitive weightlifting "career". I recently tore the labrum in my shoulder (not while lifting weights) and I'm due to have surgery soon. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this type of injury and how long it took to recover and start doing the competitive lifts again.

Thanks in advance for any response.

I have seen this in the office but not from weightlifting.  I would think that it would depend on the size and location of the tear.  I think it will be critical that you follow rehab instructions to the letter and get your range of motion back as soon as possible.

Sorry I can't be of more help.  Obviously, your doctor will be in the in the best position to advise you after he/she has been in there and seen the extent of the injury.
